Educational Grant Topics

We are currently interested in supporting continuing education programs in the following topic areas:

Medication Management

Education focused on the clinical processes and medication delivery systems utilized in the ordering, transcribing, preparing, dispensing, administering, and monitoring of intravenous medications and fluids.

  • Medication error reduction strategies involving intravenous medications and parenteral nutrition
  • Premix versus customization of nutrition support
  • Enteral and parenteral goal directed therapy
  • Use of parenteral nutrition in specific patient populations
  • Standardization of electrolyte management in parenteral nutrition
  • Standardization of high alert medications
  • Central-line associated blood stream infections
  • Ready to use systems for intravenous delivery of medications and fluids

Anesthesia / Critical Care

Education focused on optimizing clinical practice in anesthesiology and critical care to include:

  • Use of inhaled anesthetics in the obese and geriatric patient populations
  • Recovery from general anesthesia: assessing the return of protective airway reflexes and normal cognition
  • Anesthetic technique consideration when using a laryngeal mask airway device
  • Control of ventricular rate in patients with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter in critical care settings
  • Perioperative management of heart rate and blood pressure (hemodynamic control)
  • Post operative nausea and vomiting

Fluid Management

Education focused on subcutaneous fluid management in the alternate site and hospital settings.

  • Enhancing the dispersion and absorption of injected drugs
  • Adjuvants for subcutaneous fluid administration and rehydration

Eligibility

We are interested in advancing clinical education for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and dieticians. Applications would be accepted from the above individuals working in healthcare settings and professional clinical organizations and associations.
